The castle was conquered by brave women warriors led by Potinia: Maiden’s Castle. Known for the story of the princess who could not escape her fate, the building was built by Admiral Eugenius in 1104.

Inside the castle building, there are two chapels, one older than the other, mosaics, cisterns, and inscriptions on the floor. With its facts and legends, Maiden’s Castle became a popular tourist attraction for whoever is visiting Mersin province in Turkey. 

2. Bozcaada (Tenedos), Canakkale

Bozcaada Island is one of the largest islands in Turkey. Thanks to its strategic location, the island was used as a military base by many powers over the years until it was conquered by Mehmet Fatih Sultan in 1455.

Gokceada island is the largest island in Turkey. It is located in the north-northeastern Aegean Sea, at the entrance of Saros Bay. The island is a part of Canakkale province so, the best thing you can do is stop for a quick visit to the city before heading to Gokceada. The journey from the mainland to the island is about one and half hours by boat.

The main activity and sources of income of the small population on the island are agriculture and handcraft jobs. that2s why Cokceada is a great escape from thetypşcal busy life to the greenery and simple lifestyle.

4. Princes’ Islands, Istanbul

This isn’t one single island, this is a series of nearby islands located in the Marmara sea. There are four main islands: Büyükada, Heybeliada, Burgazada, and Kinaliada.

You can visit the prince’s islands on a day trip from Istanbul by hopping on a ferry from either Beşiktaş, Eminönü, Kabataş on the European side or Kadıköy and Bostancı on the Asian side of the city. Either way, you will get there in a maximum of 2 hours.
